2009 Resourceful Woman's Dinner - November 18, 2009
Thu, 10/01/2009 - 04:00 — AnonymousThe YWCA of the Greater Capital Region, Inc. is thrilled to honor Phyllis Conroy as our 2009 Resourceful Woman during our ninth annual Resourceful Women Dinner November 18, 2009. We also will honor Elizabeth Young, owner of The Living Room on River Street in Troy, as a Young Community Leader, and Owen Neitzel of Harris A. Sanders Architects, LLC as Special Friend of the YWCA.
Phyllis Conroy has dedicated a total of 10 years to the YWCA in Board service, volunteer time and unswerving dedication to our mission. Through her leadership, hard work and collaborative nature, Phyllis has been central in leading the YWCA safely through turbulent times, and helping our organization learn from these challenges to ensure its fiscal health for the future. During her tenure, Phyllis has served as President of the Board; Chairperson of the Human Resource Committee; and member of the Fund Development, Finance and Facility Committees. She currently serves as the Vice President of the Board.
Programs offered at the YWCA of the Greater Capital Region
Sat, 09/27/2008 - 13:28 — pconroyThe YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women's organization in the world. Across the globe, we have more than 25 million members in 122 countries, including 2 million members in 300 local associations in the United States. More important than the numbers, is our mission to eliminate racism and empower women. We provide safe places for women and girls, build strong women leaders, and advocate for women's rights and civil rights in Congress.
Women come to us in times of crisis, as survivors of rape or domestic violence. They come for job training and career counseling. They come for child care. They come for health and fitness. They come for a variety of reasons. But they come. And they leave with a renewed spirit, new skills, and stronger lives.
YWCA associations are divided by regions nationwide. This enables our associations to pool resources, provide additional services for their clients and combine their voices for change at the national and local levels.
